How big is this file? I only have dialup and I use a 'autoserver' at Trieste
to go and fetch files for me.

I am new to Freedos, first I wish to make a bootfloppy, since I am
blind I want to see if I will be able to use my screenreader
program, it does work from msdos 2 - dos7..
The freedos file I have is about 20meg in size and there is a lot
of talk of
'gui' that I do not need, what should I use to make a bootfloppy
just for a test please. The computer I use for dos7 is a pentium
120mhz only a hard drive and not cdrom drive, the files I have has
been taken from a cdrom, using a 'backpack' external drive
connected to the paralel port. The dates are mostly 2004 and one
2005. I did look for a 'makefloppy' file but did not see one.

The OS2eCS Oganization has just finished
migration to upgraded internet services in
preperation for release of our second OS2eCS eZine.
During this migration our services have been down
for a few days. Because of this we are extending the
deadline for article submission from March 26th. till March 29th.

Articles can be submitted to the following:

ezine@...

or

os2ecsorg@...

The first issue was received very positively and
we are incorporating recommendations and
improvements into the second issue.
We are looking forward to publishing our second
issue very soon!

It must be about a year & one-half since any posts relating to OSFree
have been seen here. I do recall seeing, in the fall or early winter of
2005, a reference to work at SCOUG by Lynn Maxson & others on a
micro-kernel or kernel for some OS, IIRC. I didn't dig around the site
to discover any details on this project or if it was related in any way
to osfree.org, but STR that this progress report was dated in early 2005.

Hopefully, Lynn Maxson or anyone else at SCOUG is monitoring this group
& can enlighten us.

I am currently working on the design of a commercial grade compiler which could, upon completion, provide the development foundation for a new operating system development effort.



If I proceed to that step, I would not be looking for OS/2 binary compatibility, but rather a WPS-like graphical interface built on top of a robust multi-tasking and multi-threaded kernel.



However, at the moment the only thing I am expending time on is the compiler.



If anyone is interested in participating, please drop me a note.



I am looking for people who are familiar with object technologies, with CICS (an IBM transaction processing system), SQL (IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle), and with Pascal-derivative languages.

I might as well speak up for Lynn Maxson. I cannot speak to
the state of OSFree or FreeOS. I suspect either has attained
the state of "dormant" until something threatens eCS to once
more raise the specter of "death" for OS/2.

The SCOUG Programming SIG has undertaking an effort to
prove or disprove the efficacy of the Developer's Assistant,
the single tool based on a single language raised in the
Warpicity Proposal at Warpstock 98. It has taken a rather
circuitous route through Python and PHP as programming
languages of interest to where now we have begun a series
on PM programming under the tutelage of Bob Blair, a master
programmer if there ever was one.

We intend to go from PM programming to creating an editor to
which we will incrementally add syntax checking, semantic
analysis, and code generation with the option of either
interpretive or compile (standalone) execution. Effectively a
compiler/interpreter. We will integrate within this the data
repository/directory which will eliminate the use of files for
source storage.

Now none of this probably makes any sense to you if you
have not followed the "controversy" over the Developer's
Assistant and SL/I (Specification Language/One) introduced in
the Warpicity Proposal.

That SCOUG Programming SIG effort will continue towards
some end, hopefully as planned. Meanwhile VOICE has
purchased the rights to the OS/2 version of PMMail, i.e.
PMMail/2. It has assembled a volunteer team, one, to fix
known bugs and, two, to enhanced the product. I have
accepted the role of team leader in this effort.

Both efforts, SCOUG and VOICE, will focus on increasing the
developer skills within the OS/2/eCS community to sustain
other efforts which we hope will also raise any number of
OS/2 applications from dormancy. The ultimate goal remains
for the OS/2/eCS community to achieve self-sufficiency in
meeting its needs when other third-party support ceases or is
not forthcoming.

Anyone interest in either effort can subscribe to the
associated mailing lists, scoug-programming (www.scoug.com)
and NewPMDis (www. os2voice.org). That's as much an
update as I need to offer at the moment.

OS/2 lives.
