Hi,

As most members seem to dislike the idea of using the Linux kernel or Reactos perhaps you may care to have
a look at Menuetos (www.menuetos.org). It is open source and is made entirely in assembler x86 code with
no roots in Unix or DOS. It features a full GUI with VESA display support, multitasking and internet access and
it fits uncompressed on a floppy.

Kernel is not so critical thing. And ReactOS not proposed to be base kernel,
but first kernel. From this point of view doen't matter which kernel will be
used for now.

I have heard of and have downloaded ReactOS. It is still in developement.
I tried to install it on an older computer but it was not compatible.

I have tried Linux but could never get it to install. I still have Linux
and might try again someday.

I have never heard of Menutetos. I will definitely check it out. Thanks
for the information.

I will keep trying to get IBM to open source OS/2 Warp. It might be a
futile attempt but I will never know if they will if I do not try.

As an OS/2 enthusiast, I take a look from time to time at the
osfree.org website to see the actual status of the osfree development
effort.
I have been trying to take a look for several days now and I always
get a 'server not found' error message.
What happened with the osfree website ? Has the project died ?

I don't know about the project, but an attempt to access
http://www.osfree.org gives the message, "page is moved" with the URL of
http://www.osfree.org/index.php which may be an error on someone's part
or the pages are gone. A search on Google gives the same site.

I checked NetLabs.org to see if it had gone there, but saw only another
porting project for OS/2, which seems to be in an early stage of
development, (It's at <http://elfldr.netlabs.org/> in case the cut &
paste below shows no link).

Linux Personality for OS/2 <http://elfldr.netlabs.org/>
The arch/i386os2 targets porting the linux kernel to OS/2 and create a
Linux personality for OS/2 at kernel level and user level. Hardcore C
developers needed.

I have tried the http://www.osfree.org site but it only goes as
far as the 'page has moved' on a blank page but nothing else.
Perhaps it has gone the way of the FreeOS site?

I have tried it again but get a 'page not found' after
clicking on the 'page has moved' link.

Perhaps they conceded to the 'porting the Linux kernel
to OS/2' group at http://www.netlabs.org ?

Would it be possible to open source OS/2 Warp? It would show that IBM is
indeed supporting open source projects plus it would give IBM a chance to
eventually drop OS/2 Warp and it support. It would also give those who
wish to continue using OS/2 a chance to do so without having to depend on
IBM and its resources (resources that IBM would probably use elsewhere).

At least their "automatic subject finder" is working, since it
automaticaly detected the "open source OS/2 Warp" string to use
as an answer. q^=
The automatic e-mail answers are now at "Elisa" artificial
inteligence level! Amazing!

Daniel,
It really is amazing since we had versions of Eliza & Animals (2 early
AI examples) working on a stock 2K (that is 2K not 2M) Timex Sinclair
1000 in 1982...

I, too, noticed that this read like an automagic "fill in the blanks"
reply; obviously no human even had a basic input on this or even read
what the thrust of Tom's request was.
